Tucked away along the coast of the Outer Banks is a little piece of heaven.  If you ride down highway 12 long enough you will drive directly onto the beautiful sands of Corolla Beach. Literally the road run out and into the ocean, it's a mind blowing experience.  A majestic island full of charm is the perfect fall family or romantic escape. Fall is a great time to unwind, relax, cook your favorite meal, sleep in, or snuggle on the couch with the ocean singing in the background. Personally, the crashing waves, walks on the beach, beautiful sunsets and the famous Wild Spanish mustangs were the highlight of my trip. I must warn you, although the mustangs are irresistible, they are wild. By law, do not touch, feed or get within 50 feet of these beautiful creatures for your safety and theirs. 

Meet Lisa. We met 20 years ago at House of Hope. I was thankful then and 20 years later I am thankful now for our sistership. Good friends are hard to find, when you find one, keep them close. At the beach we laughed, talked, walked, she baked and I cooked. These are the moments that make life sweeter. Spending time with the people I love is a new and necessary priority. Memories last longer than things. I want the memories, life is too short for anything less.

Currituck Beach Light at dusk

If you like to climb the local lighthouse has 214 steps waiting for you. The Currituck Beach Lighthouse offers unparalleled 360 degree views of the Outer Banks, it's beautiful. I took the word of a little girl I met who went to the top, LOL.  $10 and some leg power will get you to the top of this beautiful historic lighthouse. Lighthouse Hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

beach perks & Need to know 

The best thing I have done at the beach - EVER - in my lifetime is DRIVE ON IT. Talk about amazing...
If you have never driven on the beach you MUST. 

Before you drive on the beach here are a few things to remember: 

• Air down your tires to roughly 15-20 PSI. This will allow your tired to grip the sand better. Once you leave there is a air station on the right now to far away from the beach.
• DO NOT get your tired or vehicle wet. The salt water will rust your car. 
  
• 4x4 access permitted only. No Cars. 
• Driving at night is allowed.
• Overnight parking is allowed if the occupant is actively fishing. 
• Don't speed on the beach - You will get a ticket. Law enforcement is visible. ​
• Beer is allowed on the beach. Wine and liquor are not officially permitted. Please drink responsibly.
• Red flags = no swimming. When you see red flags flying, dangerous conditions are present and swimming is prohibited.
• Dogs are allowed on Currituck County beaches. 
• Don't forget to take a lunch, chair and water. 
• Wear a swimsuit, there is no bathroom on the beach, so you know what that means.
